Quiet in limited role
Rodriguez carried once for two yards in Sunday's 20-19 win over the Saints.
Analysis: Rodriguez played just three of the Commanders' 78 offensive snaps Sunday, far behind both Brian Robinson (58) and Jeremy McNichols (22). In six appearances during the 2024 campaign, the second-year running back has totaled just 27 carries for 152 yards and a touchdown. Rodriguez would likely need injuries to either Robinson or McNichols to gain more fantasy relevance down the stretch. With limited opportunities, the Kentucky product can be ignored for fantasy purposes going forward. The…read more

Excels with game out of reach
Rodriguez rushed 13 times for 94 yards and a touchdown but wasn't targeted in Sunday's 42-19 win over the Titans.
Analysis: Jeremy McNichols worked ahead of Rodriguez early on as the top alternative to Brian Robinson in the absence of Austin Ekeler (concussion), but Rodriguez excelled down the stretch as Washington ran up the score. Rodriguez began the Commanders' penultimate drive with a 25-yard scamper and capped it with a seven-yard touchdown run. He's unlikely to replicate this workload in more competitive games, but Rodriguez is making a case to leapfrog McNichols on the depth chart after Washington's Week 14…read more

Signed off practice squad
The Commanders signed Rodriguez on Tuesday.
Analysis: Rodriguez was cut by Washington on Saturday. The Commanders are once again dealing with injuries in the backfield, as Brian Robinson is tending to an ankle issue, and Austin Ekeler is in concussion protocol. If neither can play Sunday against the Titans, Rodriguez and Jeremy McNichols would handle running back duties.

Waived by Washington
The Commanders waived Rodriguez on Saturday.
Analysis: Rodriguez was a healthy inactive in Week 11 against the Eagles. With Brian Robinson, Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols all healthy, Rodriguez was the odd man out after rushing 13 times for 56 yards in limited action. Rodriguez will likely be a candidate to land back on Washington's practice squad should he clear waivers.

Healthy scratch for Thursday night
Rodriguez (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday night's game against the Eagles, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
Analysis: Rodriguez has registered 13 carries for 56 yards over the Commanders' last two games, but he will be a healthy inactive Thursday due to Brian Robinson returning from a hamstring injury. With Rodriguez sidelined, Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols will be the backup running backs Thursday behind Robinson.

Limited role against Steelers
Rodriguez rushed twice for four yards in Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Steelers.
Analysis: Rodriguez was elevated from the Commanders' practice squad for the contest with Brian Robinson (hamstring) sidelined, however, the second-year running back played just five of Washington's 64 offensive snaps Sunday. Meanwhile, teammate Austin Ekeler handled the majority of the workload out of the backfield with 14 touches as the starter against Pittsburgh. Jeremy McNichols chipped in as well with four rushes of his own. Rodriguez is buried on the Washington depth chart and should remain far of…read more

Signed to active roster
The Commanders signed Rodriguez from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday.
Analysis: Rodriguez had been elevated from the practice squad three times prior to Saturday, including in Week 9 against the Giants, when he logged his first offensive snaps of the campaign and led Washington with 52 rushing yards on 11 carries. His opportunity in that game came as a result of Brian Robinson sitting out due to a hamstring injury, and Rodriguez will perhaps play a significant role again this Sunday versus Pittsburgh with Robinson set to be sidelined again. Goes back to practice squad
Rodriguez reverted to the Commanders' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: With Brian Robinson (hamstring) sidelined Sunday at the Giants, Rodriguez came up third in snaps (20 of 62) among Washington running backs behind Austin Ekeler (29) and Jeremy McNichols (24). Having said that, Rodriguez paced the team in rushing yards with 52 on 11 carries, while Ekeler notched 14 touches for 83 yards from scrimmage, and McNichols turned eight rushes into 20 yards and didn't haul in his only target. The Commanders have used their maximum allotment of three elevations on…read more

Paces Commanders in rushing yards
Rodriguez rushed the ball 11 times for 52 yards in Sunday's 27-22 win over the Giants.
Analysis: Rodriguez was elevated from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game to account for the absence of Brian Robinson (hamstring). He tied for the team lead in rushing attempts and was surprisingly more effective than both Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols. This marked Rodrguez's third active game this season, though he had exclusively played on special teams on the first two occasions.

Elevated for Week 9
The Commanders elevated Rodriguez from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
Analysis: It's the third and final time this season that Washington can elevate Rodriguez from the practice squad. He'll give the Commanders depth at running back in case Brian Robinson (hamstring) is unable to play Sunday against the Giants.

Placed back on practice squad
Rodriguez reverted to the Commanders' practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Rodriguez was elevated ahead of a Week 6 loss to Baltimore with Brian Robinson (knee) unable to suit up. However, Rodriguez saw little action, logging zero offensive snaps and four special-teams snaps. Rodriguez has been elevated twice so far this season, and his likelihood of being active on game day again Week 7 could hinge upon whether Robinson needs to miss another game.

Elevated off practice squad
The Commanders elevated Rodriguez from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's Week 6 clash with Baltimore.
Analysis: Rodriguez was previously elevated ahead of Washington's Week 4 game against Arizona, but he didn't get any offensive snaps in the contest (though he did log six snaps on special teams). His elevation ahead of Week 6 comes as a result of starting tailback Brian Robinson being ruled out for the game due to a knee injury. Rodriguez could thus get some work against the Ravens on Sunday, though he's still behind Austin Ekeler and Jeremy McNichols on the depth chart.

Reverts to practice squad
Rodriguez reverted to Washington's practice squad Monday.
Analysis: Rodriguez was elevated to provide extra depth at running back with Austin Ekeler (concussion) out but ended up only playing on special teams. Rodriguez could once again be elevated for Week 5 versus the Browns if Ekeler remains sidelined.

Joins active roster
The Commanders elevated Rodriguez to their active roster Saturday.
Analysis: Rodriguez's elevation ensures depth at running back due to Austin Ekeler (concussion) already being ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Cardinals. Expect the second-year pro to play behind both Brian Robinson and Jeremy McNichols in Week 4.

Sticks around on practice squad
The Commanders signed Rodriguez to the practice squad Wednesday.
Analysis: The 2023 sixth-round pick appeared in 13 regular-season games for the Commanders in his rookie year, and over the last five games, Rodriguez turned 37 carries into 186 yards and two touchdowns while adding two catches for 12 yards. Despite that production, Rodriguez lost out to Jeremy McNichols for the No. 3 running back job behind Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler. Rodriguez will stick around with Washington on the practice squad, and he should be elevated to the active roster if Robinson,…read more

Waived by Washington
The Commanders waived Rodriguez on Tuesday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: A 2023 sixth-round pick, Rodriguez saw a bigger role late last season and averaged 7.4 carries for 37.2 yards over a five-game stretch Weeks 11-16 before an ankle injury brought his rookie campaign to an early end. He came back healthy this spring, but the new coaching staff in Washington seemed to prefer 28-year-old Jeremy McNichols for the No. 3 RB role behind Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler. Plays after McNichols
Rodriguez rushed the ball one time for one yard in Sunday's 20-10 preseason win over the Patriots. He added four receptions (on five targets) for 39 yards.
Analysis: Rodriguez looked to be battling Jeremy McNichols for the third running back job throughout training camp and the preseason, and the conclusion may not be in Rodriguez's favor. He was the second back on the field behind McNichols with both Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler resting, and he played into the second half. Rodriguez's ability to chip in on special teams may save his roster spot, but he isn't likely to see the field much with the offense early in the regular season.

Splits time with McNichols
Rodriguez took six carries for no gain and saw one incomplete target during Saturday's 20-17 preseason loss to the Jets.
Analysis: It wasn't an ideal start to the preseason for Rodriguez, and not just because of the unfortunate stat line. He rotated with Jeremy McNichols once Brian Robinson and Austin Ekeler were pulled from the game after the opening drive, hinting at a competition between Rodriguez and McNichols for the No. 3 job. Granted, it might not be an especially important distinction, with Rodriguez profiling as a possible replacement for Robinson and McNichols a more natural fit to fill in for Ekeler's role.…read more

Likely RB3 for Washington
With the Commanders not selecting a running back in last month's draft, Rodriguez profiles as the team's No. 3 option at running back behind Austin Ekeler and Brian Robinson,Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Per Standig, Rodriguez, who's presumably past his late-season ankle issue, appears to be the clear early-down backup to Robinson. However, with Ekeler also in the mix and destined to see plenty of touches, notably in passing situations, Rodriguez doesn't initially have a path to steady volume as the 2024 season approaches. As a rookie, the 2023 sixth-rounder recorded 51 carries for 247 yards and two TDs to go along with two catches for 12 yards in 13 regular-season contests. Also currently in…read more

Shut down for final two games
The Commanders placed Rodriguez (ankle) on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Washington hasn't revealed the findings from the MRI that Rodriguez underwent Tuesday, but scans on the rookie running back's right ankle evidently revealed an injury significant enough to keep him out of the final two weeks of the season. Analysis: While Brian Robinson (hamstring) was sidelined for a second game in a row in this past Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Jets, Rodriguez ran for 57 yards and two touchdowns before exiting after suffering an injury of his own. The rookie sported a walking boot after the game and was scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday, making his absence from practice Wednesday the furthest thing from a surprise. Rodriguez (ankle) will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: According to John Keim of ESPN.com, Rodriguez was spotted with his right foot in a walking boot following Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Jets, so it's not especially surprising that he'll need an MRI to determine the extent of his injury. With top back Brian Robinson (hamstring) sidelined for the second game in a row Sunday, Rodriguez once again handled an expanded role, getting 10 carries for 58 yards and two touchdowns while adding one catch for seven yards over 22 offensive snaps. Spotted in walking boot
Rodriguez was spotted with a boot on his right foot following Sunday's victory over the Jets, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Finds end zone twice against Jets
Rodriguez carried the ball 10 times for 58 yards and two touchdowns and caught his only target for seven yards in Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: For the second straight week with Brian Robinson (hamstring) sidelined, Rodriguez split the backfield workload with Antonio Gibson nearly equally, but this time the rookie was the far more effective and productive back. Rodriguez got the Commanders on the board with a 12-yard TD run in the second quarter before punching in a one-yard score in the fourth quarter as the team nearly pulled off a comeback from a 27-7 deficit. Ten touches in loss
Rodriguez rushed the ball 10 times for 35 yards in Sunday's 28-20 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: With Brian Robinson (hamstring) sidelined, Rodriguez paced the Washington backfield in carries. He wasn't particularly efficient with the opportunity, as his longest gain went for just 11 yards and he was held under four yards on six of his 10 attempts. If Robinson remains sidelined for a Week 16 matchup against the Jets, it appears that Rodriguez will be the team's primary back on early downs, while Antonio Gibson will see most of the pass-catching opportunities out of the backfield.

Will get more opportunities
Coach Ron Rivera said Friday that Rodriguez will get more opportunities out of the backfield with Brian Robinson (hamstring) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
Analysis: Robinson left Week 13's game against the Dolphins early with the injury, and Rodriguez handled seven carries following his departure. Antonio Gibson still paced the team with 10 rushing attempts, and four of Rodriguez's seven carries came on Washington's final four snaps of a blowout loss. While Rodriguez figures to take at least some of the work that normally goes to Robinson, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what the split between Gibson and the rookie will look like.

Helps fill in for injured Robinson
Rodriguez took seven carries for 29 yards in a 45-15 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
Analysis: Rodriguez played a career-high 22 percent of Washington's snaps on offense, getting some extra work due to Brian Robinson missing the second half with a hamstring injury. It still didn't amount to much until garbage time -- he got four of his carries on Washington's final four snaps -- but there will be an opportunity for role expansion ahead if Robinson isn't ready after a Week 14 bye. Loses fumble
Rodriguez had six carries for 43 yards and one catch for five yards but lost a fumble on his seventh and final touch of the day.
Analysis: A lost fumble at the end of the third quarter spoiled what previously had been the best day of Rodriguez's young career. Taking on an expanded role with Antonio Gibson (toe) inactive for the first time this season, the rookie recorded his first NFL reception and had a personal best of 43 rushing yards. Likely to get work Sunday
Rodriguez likely will move into the No. 2 running back role this Sunday against the Giants with teammate Antonio Gibson (toe) listed as doubtful, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
Analysis: Rodriguez is more of a bruiser and Gibson more of a speed guy and pass catcher, so the adjustment here might involve the former taking some of Brian Robinson's usual snaps while Robinson handles a lot of the passing-down work that usually goes to Gibson. However it shakes out, Robinson remains the best fantasy play by a wide margin, as Rodriguez hasn't gotten any work on offense since taking seven carries for 31 yards in the team's first matchup with the Giants in Week 7.

Leading rusher in Sunday's loss
Rodriguez carried the ball seven times for 31 yards in Sunday's 14-7 loss to the Giants.
Analysis: The Commanders' offense was stagnant for most of the day, so the rookie running back got a chance to add a spark in the second half. Rodriguez wound up leading the team in rushing, but his longest gain went for only nine yards. Despite his modest success, his spot on the depth chart behind Robinson and Antonio Gibson doesn't appear likely to change in Week 8 against a tough Eagles run defense.

Takes four carries
Rodriguez took four carries for 23 yards in Sunday's 24-16 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: After missing the previous two games with an illness, Rodriguez returned and made his largest contribution of the year. Brian Robinson doesn't look to be in imminent danger of losing the starting job, but Rodriguez is at least worth tracking in deeper leagues given that neither Robinson nor Antonio Gibson has done much on the ground this year. The Commanders face the Giants in Week 7.

Won't play Thursday night
The Commanders downgraded Rodriguez (illness) from questionable to out ahead of Thursday's game against the Bears.
Analysis: Washington listed Rodriguez as a limited practice participant throughout the week while he battled the illness, and the rookie out of Kentucky ultimately didn't make enough progress as the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff approached for the team to feel comfortable activating him for Thursday. The Commanders elevated Derrick Gore from the practice squad and could make him active for Thursday's contest as a third option out of the backfield behind Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson.

Questionable for Week 5 game
Rodriguez (illness) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Bears.
Analysis: The Commanders listed Rodriguez as a limited practice participant Monday through Wednesday, prompting the team to give him a designation for the Week 5 contest. The rookie running back's status will be established when the Commanders release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes before Thursday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff. Even if he's active for the contest, Rodriguez isn't a good bet to see any touches on offense behind Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson.

Still limited at practice
Rodriguez (illness) was a limited participant at practice Tuesday.
Analysis: His presence at practice at all is a good sign for Rodriguez after he was too sick to play in Week 4 at Philadelphia, but his status for Thursday's game versus Chicago still looks to be up in the air. He'll probably need to practice in full Wednesday to avoid carrying an injury designation into gameday.

Analysis: Rodriguez is still battling an illness that kept him out Sunday's loss to the Eagles and will look to be ready for the Commanders' game against the Bears on Thursday.
