Sacks Mayfield in blowout loss
Dye registered nine tackles (five solo), including 1.0 sacks, during the Chargers' 40-17 loss to the Buccaneers this past Sunday.
Analysis: Dye and Elijah Molden finished Sunday's game as the second-leading tacklers for the Chargers behind Daiyan Henley (10). Dye was responsible for the Bolts' lone sack as he got to Baker Mayfield for a five-yard loss late in the second quarter. Dye has seen a noticeable increase in defensive snaps over his last five games, and over that span he has logged 36 tackles (18 solo), including 1.0 sacks.

Active in loss
Dye recorded six tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Chiefs.
Analysis: At the same time, Dye only played on 51 percent of the defensive snaps with Junior Colson (ankle) back in the lineup. Starter Denzel Perryman (groin) and Colson missed the Chargers' Week 13 win over the Falcons, opening the door for Dye to play on 77 percent of the defensive snaps and make 14 tackles (six solo), both season highs. Perryman has missed the last three games with the groin injury, so if he sits out again Sunday against the Buccaneers, Dye should be in line to continue his expanded…read more

Steps up production in start
Dye recorded 14 total tackles (seven solo) and a pass defensed in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Dye played a season-high 77 percent of the team's defensive snaps with Denzel Perryman (groin) unavailable, leading to a season high in tackles. Nick Niemann saw the majority of the workload in Perryman's place in Week 12, but that flipped to Dye in Week 13. If Perryman remains out in Week 14 versus Kansas City, expect Dye to get the starter's workload again on Sunday Night Football.

Moving to L.A.
The Chargers signed Dye (wrist) to a one-year deal Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Dye has found a new home in Los Angeles after spending the first four years of his NFL career in Minnesota. According to Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Vikings offered Dye more money than the Chargers, but Los Angeles sold the 27-year-old linebacker on "the chance to start." Dye has been a core special teamer for the Vikings over the past four seasons, recording 80 total tackles in 60 games, and he'll have the opportunity to compete for a large role with the Chargers this…read more

Role increases in 2023
Dye (wrist) logged 17 total tackles, including 1.0 sack, while also forcing one fumble in 15 games during the 2023 regular season.
Analysis: Dye sustained a wrist injury during the Vikings' Week 16 loss to the Lions and he was placed on injured reserve shortly thereafter. The 27-year-old linebacker saw a more prominent role due to Anthony Barr missing a majority of the year. Dye, a career special-teamer, played his most defensive snaps (112) since his rookie year in 2020. The Oregon product is heading into the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.

Lands on IR with wrist injury
The Vikings placed Dye (wrist) on injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Dye is dealing with a wrist injury that will put an end to his regular season. The fourth-year linebacker began the campaign working almost exclusively on special teams before moving into a more prominent role after Jordan Hicks went on IR with a shin injury after Week 10. With Hicks now back in action, Dye's move to IR shouldn't have a big impact on Minnesota's defensive gameplan. Dye finishes the regular season with 17 tackles (11 solo), including 1.0 sacks, and a forced fumble. He isn't…read more

One tackle in larger role
Dye had one total tackle and played on 22 of the defense's 55 snaps in Sunday's loss to Denver.
Analysis: With Jordan Hicks on injured reserve with a shin injury, Dye becomes the second top interior linebacker after Ivan Pace (and would start in a base defense). Dye comes off the field in nickel and dime packages, which happened frequently Sunday as the Vikings almost exclusively played three safeties.

Limited to special teams
Dye didn't record a tackle and played all 17 snaps on special teams in Sunday's win over Green Bay.
Analysis: Dye started a game at linebacker last season, but he'll be limited to mostly special teams as long as Eric Kendricks and Jordan Hicks are healthy.

Ready to go
Dye (foot) was not on the injury report Wednesday and will play Sunday against the Packers, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports.
Analysis: Dye suffered the injury during the teams preseason finale against the Broncos. His availability will help bolster the Vikings' linebacker depth Sunday against the Packers.

Won't come back against Denver
Dye (foot) was ruled out for the remainder of Saturday's preseason finale against the Broncos, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The exact nature and severity of Dye's foot injury are still unknown, but it was considered severe enough to keep out for the remainder of Saturday's exhibition. With the third-year defender sidelined, rookies Brian Asamoah and William Kwenkeu should see increased reps at inside linebacker for Minnesota.

Set for increased role
Dye will start at middle linebacker Sunday against the Bears, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Eric Kendricks (illness) remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list, leaving a large gap in the middle of the Vikings' defense. Dye will step up after playing nearly exclusively on special teams this season, as he's logged only 31 defensive snaps through 16 games. He enters Sunday's matchup against the Bears having recorded 15 total tackles.

Limited to special teams
Dye had one total tackle in Sunday's overtime loss to the Bengals.
Analysis: Dye is a reserve linebacker, but he played all of his 23 snaps on special teams. His lack of snaps on defense even with Anthony Barr sidelined with a knee injury show he's low on the depth chart.

Not on injury report
Dye (leg) isn't on the injury report ahead of Sunday's Week 1 matchup against the Bengals, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports.
Analysis: Dye exited Minnesota's preseason finale against Kansas City due to a leg injury, but he isn't limited by the issue ahead of the regular season. Anthony Barr (knee) has been limited in practice recently, and Dye could see increased work Sunday if Barr is unable to suit up.

Exits with leg injury
Dye left Friday's preseason loss to Kansas City with a leg injury, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Dye remained on the sideline after the injury, which suggests it isn't a serious setback. Dye had a strong preseason and could be pressed into more duty if Anthony Barr isn't ready for Week 1.

Clear of injury for finale
Dye (concussion/hamstring) was a full practice participant Friday, and he carries no injury designation into Sunday's game against Detroit.
Analysis: Dye wasn't able to clear concussion protocol in time for Minnesota's Christmas Day matchup in New Orleans, but the fourth-round rookie is now officially ready to roll for Week 17. Three of the linebacker's five starts on the season have come over his past four appearances, with a September injury to Anthony Barr (pectoral) allowing for depth options to get more involved over the course of the year.

Ruled out for Friday
Dye (concussion/hamstring) won't play against the Saints on Christmas Day.
Analysis: Dye remains in the league's concussion protocol while also battling a hamstring injury, and he was unable to log any practice time this week. With fellow linebackers Eric Kendricks (calf) and Todd Davis (ribs) also out against New Orleans, the Vikings' depth at the position is strikingly thin.

Battling pair of injuries
Dye (concussion/hamstring) was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's practice report.
Analysis: Dye exited this past Sunday's loss to the Bears to be evaluated for a concussion, and he's indeed in the league's five-step concussion protocol. The 24-year-old linebacker is battling a hamstring injury, too. He's trending in the wrong direction to begin Week 16; there's a strong chance he's unavailable for Friday's matchup against the Saints. If that's the case, Ryan Connelly or Hardy Nickerson figure to slot in at weak-side linebacker.

Being checked for head injury
Dye is undergoing evaluation for a concussion.
Analysis: The 24-year-old had to be taken to the locker room in the second half of Sunday's game against the Bears, rendering his return questionable for the time being. The Oregon product has started two of Minnesota's past three games, collecting eight combined tackles on 59 defensive snaps since Week 12. Sunday against the Bears, he had already accumulated six tackles prior to his exit. Ryan Connelly will fill the void at weakside linebacker as long as Dye is sidelined, with Minnesota attempting to…read more

Four tackles Sunday
Dye started at weak-side linebacker and had four total tackles in Sunday's win over Detroit.
Analysis: Dye played just 25 of the defense's 75 snaps as he comes off the field in nickel and dime packages. He won't put up strong tackle totals as a result. Dye could lose his starting job to Todd Davis once he's back to full strength after testing positive for COVID-19.

Officially activated from IR
The Vikings activated Dye (foot) from injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Dye hasn't played since Week 2 when he suffered a foot injury. Nevertheless, he's expected to start at strong-side linebacker upon returning to the lineup because Anthony Barr (pectoral) is out for the season and Todd Davis is on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Dye -- a rookie fourth-round pick -- has played just 21 defensive snaps so far, so there could be growing pains Sunday against the Packers.

Expected to start against Packers
Dye (foot) is expected to handle a starting role Sunday in Green Bay, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: The Vikings haven't yet officially activated Dye to the 53-man roster from IR, but such a transaction is expected to take place in the coming days. The placement of Todd Davis (illness) on the reserve/COVID-19 list should allow Dye to slot into Minnesota's third linebacker spot, though he could be relegated to a relatively minor role behind Eric Kendricks and Eric Wilson, given that the team's defensive packages rarely field three linebackers at once.

Set to return from IR
The Vikings designated Dye (foot) to return from injured reserve Monday.
Analysis: After four games on the sidelines and a bye week, Dye will start preparing to return from IR. His first chance to get back into the lineup is this Sunday against the Packers, but that likely will depend on how the rookie fourth-rounder progresses during the practice week. With Anthony Barr (pectoral) out for the season, no Viking has claimed the starting strong-side linebacker job yet, so Dye has an opportunity to carve out a meaningful role upon his return to the lineup. There will be…read more

Shifts to IR
The Vikings placed Dye (foot) on injured reserve Thursday, Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: The rookie out of Oregon suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's loss to the Colts, and he'll have to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks. As long as Dye is sidelined, Ryan Connelly and Hardy Nickerson are the only healthy depth options at linebacker.

Increased workload
Dye played 21 snaps on defense in Sunday's loss to Indianapolis but didn't have a tackle. He did have a missed tackle and gave up a reception on the only pass targeted at him, according to Pro Football Focus.
Analysis: The 2020 fourth-round pick got the bulk of playing time as the third linebacker when Anthony Barr (pectoral) was injured. With Barr now on injured reserve, Dye or Ryan Connelly will get more playing time. However, the strong-side linebacker comes off the field in nickel and dime situations, so neither player is likely to have significant fantasy value.
