Inks deal with Buffalo
The Bills agreed to terms with Burgess on Wednesday.
Analysis: The veteran safety has agreed to join the Bills after spending his 2023 campaign with the Commanders. Last season, Burgess appeared in 12 games and recorded 25 total tackles while playing just 120 defensive snaps. Now that he's found a new home in Buffalo, expect Burgess to compete for a depth role in the team's secondary.

Makes one start
Burgess recorded 25 tackles (17 solo) across 12 games (one start) in 2023.
Analysis: A 2020 third-round pick, Burgess made just three starts in three seasons with the Rams and mostly continued in backup role for the Commanders this past year. He did record 10 tackles in his lone start, Week 18, albeit as part of a Washington secondary that allowed the Cowboys to throw for 309 yards and four touchdowns. Burgess is scheduled for unrestricted free agency in the offseason.

Joins active roster
Washington signed Burgess off of their practice squad to the active roster Tuesday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Burgess was unable to make the team's 53-man roster out of training camp, but he was able to stick around on their practice squad. With the Commanders dealing with multiple injuries in their secondary, the 2020 third-round selection will help bolster the team's depth there.

Doesn't make roster
Burgess was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 2020 third-round pick out of Utah will not make the Commanders roster after signing with the team on May 30. Set to go to waivers

Paces team with eight tackles
Burgess recorded eight tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Cowboys.
Analysis: Burgess started Sunday's contest at safety in place of Taylor Rapp, who had been ruled out with a rib injury. The third-year pro went on to play 100 percent of the team's defensive snaps in Week 5 versus Dallas, but he'll likely return to being primarily a special teams contributor for Los Angeles once Rapp is medically cleared to return to action.

Activated off COVID-19 list
Burgess was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Barring an occasional absence in the secondary, Burgess hasn't been a usual fixture of the Rams' defensive game plan this year. However, Jordan Fuller (illness) still remains in COVID protocols, so if he's unable to be cleared by Sunday, then Burgess is likely to see a rare chance at extended playing time against the Vikings in Week 16.

Enters COVID protocols
Burgess was placed on the reserve COVID-19 list Tuesday after testing positive for the virus.
Analysis: Head coach Sean McVay revealed Burgess is vaccinated, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, which means the safety could still have a chance to be available for Sunday's game against the Seahawks. In order to do so, he'll need to be asymptomatic for 48 hours and produce two consecutive negative COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart. Fellow safeties Jordan Fuller and JuJu Hughes were also placed on the list Tuesday.

Expects to be ready for Week 1
Burgess (ankle) believes he'll be ready for Week 1, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Burgess underwent season-ending ankle surgery back in October. The rookie logged just 49 snaps on defense before the injury. While he still doesn't have a definitive timeline for when he'll return to the field, the 22-year-old safety knows he'll be good to go for the season opener. A quick return to the field will be important for his chances of securing a role on defense, as Taylor Rapp (knee) and Jordan Fuller likely will land starting safety jobs in 2021.
