Retires from NFL
Willis announced Wednesday that he will retire from the NFL to pursue a future in the ministry, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Willis was drafted by the Colts in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and was a consistent producer in Indianapolis' secondary over the past three seasons. He ends his career with 219 tackles, 11 pass deflections, four interceptions, 3.5 sacks and one defensive touchdown. The Colts added veterans Rodney McLeod and Armani Watts in free agency this offseason and traded up to draft Nick Cross, so the trio of newcomers will likely absorb the majority Willis' vacated snaps in 2022.

Only 11 appearances in 2021
Willis recorded 63 tackles (43 solo), 1.5 sacks, five pass breakups, two interceptions and one fumble recovery across 11 games in 2021.
Analysis: Willis missed a total of six games this season due to groin and calf injuries, plus a stint in the league's COVID-19 protocols. When healthy, Willis did handle a starting role, providing modest value in IDP formats due to his tackle numbers. The 25-year-old is set to play out the final year of his rookie contract with Indianapolis during the 2022 season.

Activated from COVID-19 list
The Colts activated Willis (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
Analysis: Willis landed on the COVID-19 list late last week after testing positive for the virus, but he'll now be able to return to practice. The 2019 fourth-rounder will likely be available to start in Sunday's game against the Raiders.

Heading to COVID-19 list
The Colts placed Willis (illness) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday.
Analysis: Per Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston, all 18 players that landed on the COVID-19 list Saturday tested positive for the virus. Willis thus will sit out Saturday's game in Arizona and also may be in danger sitting out Week 17 versus the Raiders. With Andrew Sendejo (concussion) also sidelined, the Colts will be down to Jahleel Addae, George Odum and practice squad call-up Will Redmond at safety Saturday.

Ties season high with nine tackles
Willis totaled nine tackles (five solo) and a tackle for loss in Saturday's 27-17 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Willis tied his highest tackle total of the season, matching his output from Week 6 against Houston. His contributions helped the Colts shut New England out through three quarters, as the final score doesn't do the dominant victory justice.

Set for return
Willis (calf) was activated from injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Willis was sidelined by the calf issue since Week 9 and has missed four games since. He's likely to immediately step back into a big role defensively, as he recorded a snap rate of 90 percent or more in four of his seven games on the campaign. Willis has recorded 40 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and two interceptions in his seven contests.

Has chance to play Sunday
Coach Frank Reich said Friday that he is "optimistic" Willis (calf) will be active for Sunday's matchup with the Texans, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Willis was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday and has practiced three days in a row. However, if he is going to be available for the first time since Week 8, the Colts will have to activate him from IR by Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. Before suffering his calf injury, Willis registered 40 tackles, two interceptions and 1.5 sacks in six games.

Receives return designation
Willis (calf) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Kevin Hickey of USA Today reports.
Analysis: Willis has been sidelined since Week 8 by the calf injury, but he's now been cleared to take the practice field. The 25-year-old will have a 21-day practice window during which he can be reinstated to the active roster, otherwise he'll revert to injured reserve for the rest of the campaign.

Not returning yet
Coach Frank Reich said Wednesday that Willis (calf) will not return to practice yet, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Willis has missed the requisite three games since being placed on IR, but the Colts are still evaluating his recovery. The starting safety is eligible to retake the field as early as Sunday's matchup against the Buccaneers, but Indianapolis may opt to hold him out longer if questions about his health still linger.

Placed on IR
Willis (calf) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Willis had already been ruled out for Thursday night's matchup against the Jets, but he'll be forced to miss at least three games with a calf injury. George Odum will likely serve as the starting strong safety across the next few weeks.

Out Thursday
Willis (calf) is out for Thursday's against the the Jets.
Analysis: Willis left Sunday's game against the Titans early with the injury and was never able to get a practice in this week. His absence will leave a big hole in the Colts secondary, which already has multiple pieces on IR. George Odum will likely have to step up and start at strong safety.

Downgraded to out
Willis (calf) won't return Sunday against Tennessee, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Willis has been ruled out with a calf problem, and his absence poses a big problem for the Colts, as they'll now be forced to play the rest of the game with George Odum as Willis' replacement. Odum and Andrew Sendejo, the third and fourth safeties on the depth chart, figure to see a sizable increase on snaps as a result.

Available for MNF
Willis (groin) is active for Monday's game against the Ravens.
Analysis: Willis was considered questionable for Monday's contest and is good to go after practicing as a limited participant all week. The 25-year-old missed Week 4 due to the groin issue but will reclaim his starting role at strong safety against Baltimore.

Questionable Monday
Willis (groin) has been deemed questionable for Monday's matchup with the Ravens.
Analysis: The safety was limited participant all week in practice, offering some optimism to his availability for the contest. In three games this season prior to the injury, he made 21 tackles while intercepting a pass. If he can't go Monday, Andrew Sendejo will start in his place.

Will miss Week 4
Willis (groin) has been ruled out of Sunday's game at Miami.
Analysis: Willis had a strong Week 3 showing against the Titans before injuring his groin. The strong safety will miss his first game of the season, while Andrew Sendejo is in line to start in relief of the 25-year-old. Willis' next chance to play will be Week 5 at Baltimore.

Dealing with groin injury
Willis (groin) will be monitored throughout the week, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Willis totaled six tackles before picking up a groin injury during Sunday's contest against the Titans. After playing in every single defensive snap through the first two weeks of the season, he was only able to log 68 percent of the snaps in Week 3. Andrew Sendejo replaced him and would likely draw the start if Willis is unable to go in Week 4.

Reels in INT
Willis recorded seven solo tackles, a pass breakup and an interception in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Rams.
Analysis: This is Willis' third interception since the start of the 2020 season. The 2019 fourth-round pick is an every-snap player now, and he could have significant IDP upside as long as he stays healthy. He missed two games in each of his first two NFL seasons.

Good to go for Week 2
Willis (illness) is listed as active ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Rams.

Struggles in pass coverage
Willis started at strong safety and had seven total tackles and a QB hit in Sunday's loss to Seattle. He played on all 54 of the defense's snaps, but struggled in pass coverage. He allowed completions on all three passes thrown his way for 95 yards and two touchdowns, according to Pro Football Focus.
Analysis: Willis hasn't been seen as a liability in pass coverage (he's better against the run), so he should improve. He should compile decent tackle totals for fantasy purposes.

Clears concussion protocol
Willis cleared the concussion protocol Thursday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: Willis can now be considered fully on track for Saturday's wild-card matchup in Buffalo. The 24-year-old safety generally handles an every-down role on defense, so his presence will be significant as Indianapolis' secondary looks to contain Josh Allen.

Estimated as full participant
Willis (concussion) was listed as a full participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report.

Willis (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Mike Wells of ESPN.com reports.

Willis suffered a concussion and won't return to Sunday's game against the Steelers, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.

Willis (back/quadriceps) was a full participant in Friday's practice and will play Week 14, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.

Unavailable Sunday
Willis (back/quadriceps) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Texans, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Analysis: The 24-year-old suffered the injuries during last week's loss to the Titans and was reportedly feeling fine, but he'll end up missing at least one game. Tavon Wilson is poised to start at strong safety for the Colts in Willis' absence.

Should be fine after injury scare
Willis is expected to be fine after suffering back and quadriceps injuries in Sunday's 45-26 loss to the Titans, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Analysis: The game wasn't close in the second half, but Willis possibly could've returned to the contest if it was still competitive. That signals that he should be ready for a Week 13 matchup against the Texans. We'll have a better grasp on his injury status once practices commence Wednesday.

Willis (ribs/shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Titans, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.

Gets sack in season opener
Willis started at strong safety and had three total tackles and a sack in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville.
Analysis: Willis contributed in the pass rush with a sack, but he struggled in pass coverage. Records 71 tackles in rookie year
Willis (neck) posted 71 tackles and a pass breakup over 14 regular-season games in 2019.
Analysis: The rookie fourth-round pick made nine starts in 2019, and he proved to be a useful run stopper. If Clayton Geathers isn't re-signed before becoming an unrestricted free agent in March, Willis will be the frontrunner for a starting strong safety role in 2020.

Out against Jaguars
Willis (neck) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Willis suffered a stinger in Week 16's win over the Panthers, and it will force him to miss his second game of the year. Starting safeties Clayton Geathers and Malik Hooker are good to go, and George Odum figures to pick up the reserve snaps left behind by Willis.

Trending in wrong direction
Willis (neck) is doubtful to play in Sunday's season finale against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Willis suffered the injury in the third quarter of last week's game against Carolina and failed to practice this week. With these factors in mind, it's highly unlikely that Willis suits up Week 17. In his stead, George Odum is in line to receive the depth safety snaps.

Will be closely monitored this week
Willis (neck) will be closely monitored this week after suffering a stinger in Sunday's win over the Panthers, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.

Receives questionable tag
Willis (concussion) is questionable for Sunday's game against Tennessee.

Practices in full
Willis (concussion) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Willis is making good progress in his recovery from a concussion, but it remains to be seen whether he's officially managed to fully clear the league's protocol for head injuries. It's possible that the 23-year-old still needs to meet with an independent neurologist. In any case, the rotational safety appears to be trending towards retaking the field against the Titans on Sunday.

Back at practice
Willis (concussion) practiced in a no-contact capacity Wednesday, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
Analysis: Willis is taking his next step through concussion protocol, and he'll have two more practice sessions to elevate to full capacity. If he's able to do so, the 23-year-old has a good shot at playing Sunday against the Titans. When he's ready to go, the rookie is expected to log a respectable workload since he averaged 42.4 defensive snaps per game before this injury.

Willis (concussion) is ruled out for Thursday's matchup against the Texans, Mike Wells of ESPN.com reports.
