Second-most targets Week 14
Akins caught four of nine targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 38-24 loss to Denver in Week 14.
Analysis: With Will Fuller (hamstring) sidelined, opportunities became available for other receivers. Surprisingly, it was Akins that benefited the most on a day when Deshaun Watson threw a season-high 50 times. Akins' nine targets were a season high and the second-most on the team behind only DeAndre Hopkins (13).

Good to go Week 14
Akins (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Broncos.
Analysis: Akins popped up on the Texans' injury report after practicing in a limited fashion Thursday, but he upgraded to full participation during Friday's session. His ability to take every rep in the final practice of the week likely means he won't face any restrictions Sunday, so expect Akins to once again split the tight-end snaps with Darren Fells, as is typically the case.

Added to injury report Thursday
Akins (knee) was limited at practice Thursday.
Analysis: Akins was a Thursday addition to Houston's injury report, so those considering the tight end in deeper formats this week will want to check back on his status Friday. Akins and Darren Fells have operated in time-share this season, but while the duo's catch/yardage numbers are similar, Fells has been the more productive fantasy option, having notched seven TDs to Akins' total of two through 12 games. The return of Jordan Thomas from injury two weeks ago could further impact Akins' fantasy value,…read more

Picks up 19 yards
Akins caught his only target for a 19-yard gain during Sunday's 28-22 win over the Patriots.
Analysis: Akins was targeted only once for just the second time this season, and he caught a single pass for the second time in three weeks. The UCF product, and the Texans' tight end room in general, saw a slight dip from what was already middle-of-the-road production with Will Fuller back in the fold last week. Next up is Denver's fifth-ranked pass defense, though the Broncos have been so-so against tight ends this season.

Leading TE target Thursday
Akins caught three of four targets for 26 yards in Thursday's 20-17 win over the Colts in Week 12.
Analysis: Akins had more targets than starter Darren Fells for just the third time this season, and it was the ninth time in 11 games he's finished with fewer than 30 yards. Tight end value is closely linked to red-zone opportunities, and, in that respect, Fells (10) holds the advantage over Akins (five). Both players face more competition for snaps now that Jordan Thomas is healthy.

One catch in loss
Akins caught one of two targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Ravens.
Analysis: As the score suggests, the Texans were behind early and never got close. There wasn't even the garbage-time statistical padding that sometimes comes with a blowout loss. Akins, who has only one game with more than 39 yards, is averaging 26.3 yards per game.

Sets career marks
Akins caught all three of his targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: Akins now has new career highs in receptions (20), targets (28) yards, receiving yards (248) and touchdowns (two), with at least seven more games to build on those numbers. Unfortunately, this usage has led to only two touchdowns, both scored in a Week 3 win over the Chargers. While both Texans tight ends are getting more opportunities relative to last season, Akins clearly sits behind Darren Fells in terms of touchdowns and red-zone targets.

Snags two passes in win
Akins caught two of five targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Raiders in Week 8.
Analysis: It was another game where Houston's tight ends were integral to the passing offense. Akins and Darren Fells combined for 11 targets, tying the position's season high, but it was Fells that made the most impact by catching two red-zone touchdowns. For this one game, the Texans partially made up for the absence of Will Fuller (hamstring) by allocating more opportunities to their tight ends, while Keke Coutee did not even get off the sideline. Halfway through the season, Akins has already matched…read more

Catches both targets
Akins caught both his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Akins and Darren Fells both started and played 42 offensive snaps, but neither was significantly involved in the passing game in Week 7. Akins has 15 catches for 213 yards and two touchdowns in seven games.

Catches three passes in win
Akins caught three of three targets for 39 yards in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Chiefs in Week 6.
Analysis: It was a big target day for Houston's tight ends, as Akins and Darren Fells combined for 10 targets, their most since Week 3. Neither found the end zone, but both were targeted in the red zone again while Akins' five red-zone targets are tied for second on the team behind Will Fuller. Akins, who has caught at least one pass in all six games thus far, has 13 catches for 196 yards and two touchdowns.

Small contribution to win
Akins caught his lone target for 21 yards in Sunday's 53-32 win over Atlanta.
Analysis: Akins extended a drive with a third-down catch that led to Houston's first score, tying the game at 7-7. He also had a red-zone target that was nullified by offsetting penalties. For the season, he's been targeted inside the 20 four times, which ranks second on the team behind wideout Will Fuller. Despite their overall limited usage, Houston's tight ends have seven red-zone targets, tied with the wide receivers. Akins has at least one catch in every game, has scored twice, and is averaging 15.7…read more

Remains top TE target
Akins caught three of four targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Panthers in Week 4.
Analysis: Akins popped up on fantasy radars last week when he caught two touchdowns and continued the momentum against the Panthers, although he didn't find the end zone. He leads Houston's tight ends with 14 targets -- three more than starter Darren Fells -- and is tied for third overall on the team. Quarterback Deshaun Watson still looks for his wideouts first and foremost, but Akins has emerged as a second-tier threat.

Plays big part in Week 3 win
Akins caught three of five targets for 73 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Chargers in Week 3.
Analysis: Akins was wide open on his first TD, which was a 15-yard strike. The second touchdown was a 53-yard catch-and-run on a busted play, kept alive by quarterback Deshaun Watson's scrambling before he found Akins alone in the middle of the field. From there, he went untouched down the sideline. Akins established single-game highs in targets, catches and yards while scoring the first touchdowns of his two-year tenure in Houston. The Texans got their tight ends involved Week 3, a departure from…read more

Leading receiver at TE
Akins caught two of three targets for 25 yards in Sunday's 13-12 win over the Jaguars.
Analysis: One of Akins' targets came in the red zone and resulted in an incomplete pass, the first red-zone target for a Houston tight end in 2019. He played fewer snaps (39) than Darren Fells (44), which is to be expected when Houston favors the ground attack in its game plan. Through two weeks, Akins leads Texans tight ends with three catches and 42 yards.

Leads TEs in snaps
Akins caught one of two targets for 17 yards in Monday's 30-28 loss to the Saints in Week 1.
Analysis: There's been some level of uncertainty regarding Houston's tight ends, but some clarity emerged from Week 1. Akins led the position group with 47 snaps (70 percent), and Darren Fells was behind him at 34 snaps (51 percent). The remaining four tight ends on the roster were either injured (Jordan Thomas, Kahale Warring), inactive (Logan Paulsen) or played on special teams only (Jerell Adams). It's important to note that although Akins was the leader in playing time, the tight ends were targeted…read more

Opportunity knocks
With fellow tight end Jordan Thomas (cracked rib) and Kahale Warring (concussion) on IR, Akins figures to see added opportunities in the Texans offense this season.
Analysis: The 2018 third-rounder hauled in 17 passes for 225 yards in 16 games as a rookie last season and seemed destined to work in a timeshare with Thomas, but Akins now profiles as the Texans' top pass-catching tight end. Meanwhile, veteran teammates Darren Fells and Logan Paulsen are valued more for their blocking ability.

Snags two catches in preseason opener
Akins caught two of three targets for 24 yards in Thursday's 28-26 preseason opening loss to the Packers.
Analysis: Houston's entire passing game was stuck in low gear, as the speedy but inaccurate Joe Webb played the entire contest under center. While there isn't much information to be gleaned from Akins' performance in this one, the versatile tight end's ability to line up as a wide receiver makes him an intriguing option, especially since wideout Keke Coutee had to leave the contest with an ankle injury.

More diversity in 2019
Akins is expected to be utilized in several positions in 2019, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Analysis: Akins lined up as a slot receiver and fullback last season and expects to be used in those positions even more in 2019. "I would say slot receiver," Akins said. "Special teams as well, up-back, punt return as well as fullback. Just moving us around, I think we can create more mismatches. All of our tight ends bring a different set of skills." Akins, last year's third-round draft pick, and 2018 sixth-rounder Jordan Thomas return as the leaders at tight end with 2019 third-rounder Kahale Warring…read more

Sitting second on depth chart
Akins is slotted in as the Texans' second-string tight end behind Jordan Thomas, Aaron Reiss of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The release of Ryan Griffin positioned Akins to battle for a starting job in 2019, but it appears Thomas has pulled ahead of Akins early in the pecking order. On a positive note, Reiss suggests there is a significant gap between Akins and the others below him on the depth chart. A strong showing in the preseason could also boost Akins' standing and offensive reps this season.

Catches 17 passes in 2018
Akins caught 17 passes for 225 yards in 16 games as a rookie in 2018.
Analysis: Akins had a relatively lackluster year as a pass catcher after joining the Texans as a third-round pick in last year's draft. He operated as a No. 3 tight end behind Ryan Griffin and Jordan Thomas for much of the year, which limited his snaps. He could see an uptick in play time in 2019 if he's able to round into form and build on the potential that made him a Day 2 selection in the draft.

Leads Houston tight ends
Akins caught two of his three targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 32-30 loss to the Eagles.
Analysis: Akins, who led Houston's tight ends in receiving Sunday, received more snaps than fellow rookie Jordan Thomas, something that hadn't happened since Week 4. The position group, which has been largely ignored all season, may take on a higher profile in the coming weeks after Demaryius Thomas suffered a season-ending Achilles injury.

Plays off the line
Akins is capable of playing both slot and wide receiver if the Texans need that. "Jordan's a very versatile guy. There's no doubt about that. Obviously, he's a tight end, but you saw him [Sunday] - he lined up out wide, he lines up in the slot, he lines up in the backfield. Very smart guy, can do a lot of different things," said coach Bill O'Brien.
Analysis: Akins' ability to play off the line of scrimmage could come in handy for the Texans, who are dealing with injuries to Keke Coutee (hamstring) and DeAndre Carter (concussion) as they prepare for Week 15 against the Jets on Saturday.

Hauls in pair during loss
Akins caught both of his targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Colts.
Analysis: Quarterback Deshaun Watson has increased the use of the tight ends in recent weeks and targeted the three-man group of Akins, Ryan Griffin and Jordan Thomas 11 times in the loss. Houston is dealing with injuries at wideout, which could lead to similar targeting Week 15 against the Jets. Of the three, Griffin leads in targets while Thomas is the touchdown leader.

Targeted once
Akins caught one 13-yard pass during Sunday's 29-13 win over the Browns.
Analysis: Akins has now been targeted seven times over his past four games following just 11 targets in his first eight games. He hasn't been able to produce much during his rookie season, but the Texans have an interesting tight-end room, and all three targets have produced equally modestly, with each producing between 13 and 15 catches and 152 and 203 yards. Akins brings up the rear on both those stats at an already underutilized group. Don't expect that to change Sunday against an average Colts pass…read more

Leading TE target Sunday
Akins did not catch any of his three targets in Sunday's 19-17 win over Denver.
Analysis: This was the third consecutive game without a reception for Akins, whose 36 snaps on offense were his most since Week 4. With the Texans short at wide receiver, all of Houston's tight ends got significant playing time, and Akins brought up the rear behind Ryan Griffin (47) and Jordan Thomas (39). Akins has received increased playing time of late due to injuries at wideout, but quarterback Deshaun Watson rarely looks his way.
