Placed on IR
The Browns placed Hurst (ankle) on injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Hurst was already ruled out for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh due to an ankle injury. However, the issue is serious enough that the 2018 fifth-round pick will be placed on injured reserve, which will require him to miss at least the next four regular-season games. That means Hurst could be activated off IR ahead of the Browns' regular-season finale against the Ravens on Sunday, Jan. 5. If Hurst doesn't play Week 18 and assuming the Browns don't make the playoffs, he would end his 2024…read more

Ruled out for Week 14
Hurst (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hurst was unable to practice Thursday due to an ankle injury, and the issue is serious enough for him to be sidelined for Sunday's AFC North clash. With Hurst out and Michael Hall (knee) on injured reserve, rookie seventh-rounder Jowon Briggs should see a significant increase in defensive snaps as the Browns' rotational defensive tackle behind starters Dalvin Tomlinson and Shelby Harris.

To return against Eagles
Hurst (ankle) is active Week 6 against the Eagles.

Taken off IR
The Browns activated Hurst (ankle) off injured reserve Saturday, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
Analysis: Hurst hurt his ankle Week 1 against Dallas and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. He's since missed the required four games and had his practice window opened this past Wednesday. Hurst still carries a designation of questionable heading into Sunday, but he has a good chance of playing versus the Eagles after logging an LP/LP/FP practice progression this week.

Practice window opens
Hurst (ankle) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Hurst has missed the Browns' last four games after sustaining an ankle injury in the Cleveland's Week 1 loss to the Cowboys, but it appears he's nearing a return to the field. The Browns will now have 21 days to activate Hurst to their active roster before he reverts to IR. He's expected to serve as a rotational interior defensive lineman once he fully recovers from his ankle issue.

Put on shelf
Hurst (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: Hurst exited the Browns' Week 1 loss to the Cowboys with the injury, which will now put him out for at least the next four weeks. His absence will be a blow to the interior of Cleveland's defensive line, which the team will attempt to address with the signing of Sam Kamara from its practice squad. Although a specific return date for Hurst beyond the minimum of four weeks is unknown, according to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com, head coach Kevin Stefanksi doesn't believe it's a season-ender for the…read more

Sustains ankle injury
Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday that Hurst (ankle) is considered week-to-week, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Hurst logged three total tackles while playing 29 total snaps (22 defensive and seven on special teams) during the Browns' Week 1 contest before sustaining an ankle injury. Expect Quinton Jefferson to see more work as a rotational interior defensive lineman while Hurst recovers.

Full-go Friday
Hurst (hamstring) was a full participant in Friday's practice and has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hurst was limited earlier in the week due to a hamstring injury, but it appears he's moved past the issue just in time for Cleveland's regular-season opener Sunday. Expect the 29-year-old to serve as one of the Browns' top rotational defensive linemen in Week 1.

Hanging around Cleveland
Hurst and the Browns agreed on a one-year, $3.2 million contract Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Hurst finished the 2023 campaign on injured reserve with a pectoral injury, but prior to going down, he recorded 22 tackles, including 1.5 sacks, while also adding an interception among three pass defenses and a fumble recovery over 13 games in his first season with the Browns. The 28-year-old will likely operate as a primary backup option behind Dalvin Tomlinson and Jordan Elliott on Cleveland's defensive line again in 2024.

Goes on IR
Hurst (pectoral) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Hurst suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, and his move to IR will guarantee he'll miss at least the next four weeks. However, according to Hurst's own tweet, his season is over, signaling the injury is significant enough that he won't return no matter the length of a playoff run the Browns potentially put together. Hurst's absence moving forward will likely lead to extra opportunities for Siaki Ika and Shelby Harris on the interior of the Browns' defensive line.

Questionable to return
Hurst (pectoral) is questionable to return in Cleveland's matchup versus the Jaguars on Sunday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Hurts exited Sunday with a pectoral injury making his status for the rest of the game uncertain. If the 28-year-old is unable to return, Shelby Harris should see increased playing time.
