Returning to Dallas
Hooker signed a two-year contract Tuesday with the Cowboys, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Hooker emerged as a key member of Dallas' defense down the stretch last season, so his return makes sense for both sides. That being said, the soon-to-be 26-year-old safety still remains off the fantasy radar in all but the deepest of IDP formats.

Activated off COVID-19 list
Hooker (illness) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: Hooker tested positive for the virus and was sidelined for the Cowboys' Week 16 blowout win over Washington. However, the fifth-year safety is expected to return to his rotational role during Dallas' Week 17 meeting with the Cardinals. Hooker has played at least 15 defensive snaps in every game he has been active this season.

Placed on reserve/COVID-19 list
Hooker (illness) tested positive for the coronavirus Thursday and was moved to the reserve/COVID-19 list, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Hooker is vaccinated, so he'll still have an outside shot of being available for Sunday's game against Washington if he's deemed asymptomatic of the virus. The fifth-year safety has appeared in 13 games for Dallas this season, tallying 38 tackles and one interception.

Big performance in Sunday's win
Hooker recorded six tackles (five solo) and an interception in Sunday's win over the Giants.
Analysis: The Dallas defense held New York to just two field goals on the afternoon thanks in part to four turnovers, including Hooker's first INT of the year. The former Colt was also one off the team lead in tackles for the game, and he needs just 14 more over the final three games to establish a new career high for a season in that category. Hooker isn't one of the biggest names in the Cowboys' secondary, but he's emerging as a key cog down the stretch.

Returns from COVID list
The Cowboys activated Hooker (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday.
Analysis: Hooker was sent to the COVID list Monday, but he's now eligible to return to practice immediately Friday. The 25-year-old safety is expected to handle a key defensive role during Sept. 9's regular-season opener in Tampa Bay.

Placed on COVID list
Hooker was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Analysis: Hooker was one of three Dallas players added to the league's COVID-19 protocols, along with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and fellow safety Israel Mukuamu. The Cowboys are hoping to get all three back prior to the Sept. 9 season opener in Tampa Bay.

Officially moves to IR
Hooker (Achilles) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: The 2017 first-round pick will shift his focus to getting healthy for the 2021 season, and since the Colts declined to pick up Hooker's fifth-year option, he'll become an unrestricted free agent in March if he doesn't agree to an extension. Through 36 career games, Hooker has recorded 124 tackles, 11 pass breakups and seven interceptions.

Done for season
Hooker has a torn Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: This news was essentially known, but an MRI confirmed it. Injuries have plagued Hooker since entering the league as a first-round pick in 2017, as he's already missed 14 of 50 NFL games. After Hooker departed Sunday, rookie third-rounder Julian Blackmon stepped in and played the rest of the game, and he'll likely start at free safety for the rest of the season. Hooker is expected to be placed on IR soon.

Torn Achilles feared
Hooker is believed to have a torn Achilles, and he'll have an MRI on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: While it hasn't been confirmed via MRI, Hooker is expected to miss the rest of the 2020 season. The 2017 first-round pick missed 14 games over his first three seasons in the league, so this is another tough development for the free safety. Either George Odum or Tavon Wilson likely will slot into Hooker's role, although rookie third-rounder Julian Blackmon could be in the mix as well.

Suffers injury Sunday
Hooker (Achilles) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against Minnesota, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
Analysis: It's unclear how Hooker suffered the injury, however, he was forced to leave the contest in the second quarter. As long as he's sidelined, look for George Odum to handle starting free safety duties.

Five tackles in season opener
Hooker had five total tackles in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville.
Analysis: He struggled in coverage, giving up a touchdown on the one pass targeted at him, according to Pro Football Focus. He also didn't make the big plays the Colts needed on several deep balls. For a player who should be motivated after the Colts declined his fifth-year contract option, it was an inauspicious season opener.

Fifth-year option declined
Hooker's fifth-year option will not be picked up by the Colts, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Hooker's playmaking ability has been undercut by injury concerns since he joined the Colts in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, as he has yet to play a full regular-season slate with the team. The 24-year-old now has a chance to boost his market if he logs a career season in 2020, as he's set to become a free agent in 2021. Declining Hooker's fifth-year option doesn't necessarily prevent the Colts from working on a new contract to keep him in house next offseason, but it does put pressure…read more

Fifth year uncertain
Hooker will not have his fifth-year option exercised before the 2020 NFL Draft, Joel Erickson of the IndyStar reports.
Analysis: Hooker has been a playmaker at times throughout his career, recording seven interceptions across three seasons. However, injuries have plagued the safety throughout his career, as he missed half of his rookie season with an ACL injury and missed three games in 2019 due to a meniscus tear. Those injuries have also hampered his ability to become an effective coverage safety, which might play a part in why the Colts have taken their time in offering an extension.

Generates 51 stops in 2019
Hooker registered 51 tackles, three pass breakups and two interceptions over 13 games in 2019.
Analysis: Hooker missed three games due to a knee injury, but he started all 13 contests he suited up for. The 2017 first-round pick is headed into the final year of his rookie contract if the Colts don't pick up his fifth-year option, but they likely will since he's locked into a starting free safety role in 2020.

Active in Week 16
Hooker (hand) is active for Sunday's Week 16 tilt against the Panthers.
Analysis: The third-year safety had managed to work back to full practice participation Friday, so his active status isn't entirely surprising. Hooker will therefore be out there in his usual starting free safety spot against Panthers rookie quarterback Will Grier, who'll be making his first NFL start Sunday.

Questionable for Sunday
Hooker (hand) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Hooker began the week not practicing but progressed to full participation Friday, which should put him on track to play Week 16. The 23-year-old hasn't missed a defensive snap in the last four games and seems likely to play his usual starting role Sunday.

Nursing hand injury
Hooker was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report.
Analysis: Hooker apparently sustained the injury during Monday's loss to the Saints, though he still played every defensive snap. The 23-year-old likely will need to practice in some capacity Thursday or Friday to have a chance to suit up Week 16.

Will play Sunday
Hooker (foot) is officially active for Sunday's matchup against the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Hooker turned in full practice time in Friday's session, so this news isn't quite surprising. The Ohio State product is expected to assume his usual starting role as the team's starting free safety for Week 14 now that he's healthy.

Questionable for Week 14
Hooker (foot) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Analysis: Hooker turned in a limited practice Wednesday, sat out Thursday and put in a full session Friday. The 23-year-old has dealt with knee issues for much of the season, but his current foot problem surfaced this week.

Generates seven stops
Hooker recorded seven tackles (two solo) in Thursday's 20-17 loss to the Texans.
Analysis: Hooker battled a knee injury during the short practice week, but he looked anything but bothered as he achieved a season high in stops. The former first-rounder also had a key tackle on Duke Johnson in the third quarter that forced the Texans to settle for a field goal. Hooker now has 33 tackles, two pass breakups and an interception through eight games.

Practices in full Friday
Hooker (knee) does not have an injury designation heading into Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Analysis: Hooker missed Thursday's practice but was a full participant Friday. He's made 13 tackles (seven solo) with no interceptions or sacks in three games since returning from meniscus surgery.

Tending to knee issue
Hooker did not participate in Thursday's practice due to a knee injury.
Analysis: Hooker underwent surgery to trim his meniscus Sept. 24, and he's received periodic days off from practice since retaking the field Week 8. It remains to be seen whether his current absence signifies anything more than rep management to maintain his health. If he's able to suit up against the Jaguars on Sunday, Hooker stands to play his usual every-down role.

Upgrades to full practice
Hooker (knee) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Analysis: Hooker was unable to practice in any capacity Wednesday, but he now appears to have shed his knee issue. Barring any setbacks, the third-year pro looks primed for his usual starting role versus the Dolphins on Sunday.

Unable to practice
Hooker (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
Analysis: Hooker was held out of last Friday's practice but was active for this past Sunday's loss to the Steelers. He logged 56 of a possible 63 snaps (89 percent) in the contest and made five tackles. Hooker was an every-snap player last season, so it appears the Colts are holding him back slightly to help maintain his health. The third-year pro may be on a similar track for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

Ready to rock
Hooker (knee) is officially listed as active for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
Analysis: The 2017 first-round pick was held out entirely of Friday's practice session, so the fact that he's playing is a big positive for the defense. Now that he's officially healthy, expect Hooker to assume his usual role as the team's starting free safety for Week 9.

Draws questionable tag
Hooker (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Steelers.
Analysis: Hooker practiced in full Wednesday, but he was then limited Thursday and held out entirely during Friday's session. It remains to be seen whether the starting safety suffered a setback in his recovery or if his lack of practice is simply a result of rep management.
