Set to hit free agency
Houston-Carson posted eight tackles in the Bears' 29-13 loss to the Vikings in Week 18, and ended the season with 45 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble over 17 games played.
Analysis: Once the Bears placed Eddie Jackson (foot) on injured reserve after Week 11, Houston-Carson took on a full-time role. As a starter, he averaged five tackles per game and was a solid IDP option. It's possible that his solid work down the stretch helps him gain a significant role on a team as he enters unrestricted free agency.

First interception of season
Houston-Carson picked off a pass and recorded five tackles in the Bears' 25-20 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.
Analysis: Since taking over the starting safety role in Week 12, Houston-Carson is averaging six tackles to go along with an interception. He should remain a high-floor IDP option in the fantasy playoffs.

Surprises with big game
Houston-Carson notched nine tackles in the Bears' 31-10 loss to the Jets on Sunday.
Analysis: After not having more than two tackles in any game and posting a total of eight tackles on the season, Houston-Carson was pressed into duty when Jaquan Brisker was inactive and Eddie Jackson (foot) left the game with an injury. If either starting safety is forced to miss continued time, Houston-Carson could be considered as an IDP streaming option.

Set for depth role
Houston-Carson is one of five safeties the Bears placed on their 53-man roster,
Analysis: With Eddie Jackson and rookie Jaquan Brisker expected to hold down the top-two safety spots, Houston-Carson will likely see snaps in a rotational role. Unless Jackson or Brisker miss time, Houston-Carson can be expected to have inconsistent IDP value.

Active in minicamp
Houston-Carson was an active participant as a member of Chicago's first-team defense during OTA sessions June 8, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Houston-Carson was re-signed to a one-year, $1.77 million contract by the Bears in March after the defensive back ended this past season on the team's injured reserve with a forearm injury. The safety played the most defensive snaps (397) of his six-year career last season, totaling 51 tackles, four passes defended and one interception over 13 games. Houston-Carson appears healthy, and possibly primed for a larger role, after notching two interceptions of quarterback Justin Fields during team…read more

Re-signs with Chicago
Houston-Carson (forearm) signed a one-year, $1.77 million contract with the Bears on Saturday, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Houston-Carson has primarily played on special teams during his six-year NFL career, though he played a season-high 397 defensive snaps during 2021. He recorded 51 tackles (33 solo), one interception and two fumble recoveries in 13 games before suffering a broken arm Week 14. It's unclear where Houston-Carson stands in his recovery, though he should be ready for training camp.

Ends season on injured reserve
Houston-Carson (forearm) was placed on injured reserve Dec. 20, and he ended the season with 51 tackles, an interception and four passes defensed.
Analysis: After playing a backup role early in the season, Houston-Carson saw heavy snaps over a four-week period (Week 7 through Week 11) that helped him post the best season of his six-year career. Unfortunately, he broke his arm in Week 14, and he'll try to recover from surgery fully ready for the 2022 season. He'll be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and if he can land a starting role, he showed the ability to post solid tackle totals, which could make him a sleeper IDP option.

Goes on injured reserve
The Bears placed Houston-Carson (forearm) on injured reserve Monday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Houston-Carson broke his arm in the Bears' loss to the Packers in Week 14. He'll soon undergo surgery to address the injury, so his move to IR was merely a formality. In a corresponding move, the Bears activated offensive tackle Germain Ifedi (knee) from IR.

Out for season
Houston-Carson broke his arm during the Bears' 45-30 loss to the Packers on Sunday and will be out for the season, according to head coach Matt Nagy, Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Houston-Carson was filling in for Xavier Crawford, who left earlier in the game with a concussion. With Houston-Carson now done for the year and Crawford's status for Week 15 up in the air, the Bears' secondary could be stretched thin when they take on the Vikings in Week 15.

Sustains arm injury
Houston-Carson is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Packers due to an arm injury.
Analysis: Houston-Carson saw some playing time at cornerback during the second half of Sunday's matchup after Xavier Crawford suffered a concussion. However, Houston-Carson sustained his arm injury shortly after taking over as the team's third cornerback. If he's unable to return, Kindle Vildor and Marqui Christian could see a slight uptick in playing time.

Strong outing
Houston-Carson posted nine tackles in the Bears' 16-13 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
Analysis: Since his playing time spiked in Week 6, Houston-Carson has posted at least six tackles in each contest, and he has become a solid IDP option at the safety position.

Scores touchdown
Houston-Carson returned a fumbled punt for a touchdown while adding six tackles in the Bears' 29-27 loss to the Steelers on Monday.
Analysis: Houston-Carson has recorded 23 tackles over the last three games, and his performance this week came with Tashaun Gipson back in the lineup after missing time with a hip injury. Should Houston-Carson retain a similar role after Chicago's Week 10 bye, he should be considered a solid IDP option

Leads team in tackles
Houston-Carson had six tackles (five solo) and one pass defensed during Sunday's 33-22 loss to the 49ers.
Analysis: The 28-year-old made a spot start last week with Tashaun Gipson sidelined, and he played a significant role again Sunday with Eddie Jackson exiting early with a hamstring injury. Houston-Carson has filled an every-down role the past two weeks and has 17 total tackles and two pass breakups.

Comes up big in spot start
Houston-Carson recovered a fumble and posted 11 tackles in the Bears' 38-3 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Analysis: With Tashaun Gipson (hip) sitting this one out, Houston-Carson came up with a huge fantasy performance, but when Gipson was in the lineup, he hadn't posted more than three tackles in any contest. If Gipson should miss more time, Houston-Carson could be worth streaming in IDP leagues.

Re-signs with Bears
Houston-Carson (concussion) re-signed with the Bears on Thursday, Larry Mayer of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Houston-Carson, a 2016 sixth-round draft pick, has played with Chicago for the past five seasons. During his last campaign, the safety appeared in all 16 games and played a career-high 90 snaps on defense. The 27-year-old also managed to record career-highs in tackles (15), interceptions (one) and pass breakups (three) during his 2020 season. Houston-Carson will likely continue to contribute on special teams and aim to compete for a larger safety role in 2021.

Houston-Carson (concussion) will not return to Sunday's wild-card matchup against the Saints, Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
Analysis: Houston-Carson and fellow depth safety Sherrick McManis (hamstring) will both be unavailable for the remainder of Sunday's contest. Both McManis and Houston-Carson are regular contributors on special teams.

Intercepts first pass of season
Houston-Carson picked off a pass while adding one tackle in Chicago's 23-16 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
Analysis: Despite his big play, Houston-Carson has just three tackles on the season and doesn't have enough of a role to be considered a reliable IDP option.

Back with Bears
Houston-Carson has re-signed with the Bears, Larry Mayer of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The 2016 sixth-rounder will thus reprise his reserve safety/special teams role with the Bears in 2020. The 26-year-old logged only six tackles with the team this past season, numbers that keep the 6-0, 202-pounder off the IDP radar.
