Cleared to suit up Sunday
Jefferson (hamstring) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's Week 15 game versus Tampa Bay, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Jefferson missed this past Sunday's loss to Kansas City, but he was able to log an LP/LP/FP practice progression this week. As such, he's in line to return to action Sunday. With Los Angeles' starters in the secondary healthy, Jefferson will likely play primarily on special teams unless an injury ahead of him on the depth chart requires him to log more defensive work.

Limited to begin practice week
Jefferson (hamstring) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Jefferson logged a season-high 69 percent of the Chargers' defensive snaps against Atlanta in Week 13, but he was then unable to suit up this past Monday versus Kansas City due to a hamstring issue. The veteran safety closed last week with a pair of DNPs, so his ability to start this week with a limited session is a positive sign for his chance of returning Sunday versus Tampa Bay. If he can't suit up for that game, though, Marcus Maye could again see more work on defense.

Inactive for SNF
Jefferson (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday Night Football against the Chiefs.
Analysis: The veteran safety started last Sunday's win over the Falcons, played on 69 percent of the defensive snaps and made nine tackles (six solo). Jefferson got the start because Derwin James was playing slot corner. If the Chargers opt for a similar arrangement against the Chiefs, Kendall Williamson or Marcus Maye could see additional snaps in Jefferson's absence.

Draws start in win over Atlanta
Jefferson recorded eight total tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Falcons.
Analysis: Jefferson drew the start at strong safety with Derwin James spending the day at slot cornerback. Jefferson returned to the Chargers this past week after being let go in late September, making the most of his opportunity to start Sunday. Considering Los Angeles recorded four interceptions off Kirk Cousins in the win, it's possible they operate with a similar configuration in the secondary moving forward.

Released by Chargers
Jefferson was released by the Chargers on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Analysis: The safety signed from the practice squad to the active roster ahead of Los Angeles' Week 4 clash with Kansas City on Sunday. Even with starter Derwin James out, Jefferson did not play a defensive snap. In total, he has played on seven defensive snaps and three special-teams snaps with the Bolts this season.

Signed to Bolts' active roster
The Chargers signed Jefferson from the practice squad to the active roster Thursday.
Analysis: The move comes with Derwin James serving a one-game suspension for violating the NFL's player safety rules. Jefferson retired from the NFL in 2023, but he opted to make a comeback by signing with the Chargers in May. He wasn't able to make the initial 53-man roster, but he stuck around on the practice squad. Now that he's on the active roster, Jefferson will provide depth in the Chargers' secondary for their Week 4 matchup against the Chiefs.

Added to Bolts' practice squad
The Chargers signed Jefferson to their practice squad Friday, per the NFL's transaction log.
Analysis: Jefferson had a strong finish to the preseason with two picks against the Cowboys this past Saturday, but he was unable to make the Chargers' 53-man roster in a depth secondary role. He last saw NFL action with the Giants in 2022, when he accumulated 23 tackles (16 solo) and one pass defended across nine regular-season contests.

Let go by Bolts
The Chargers released Jefferson on Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Jefferson signed with the Chargers in June and finished the preseason strong with two interceptions against the Cowboys this past Saturday, but it wasn't enough for him to survive the roster cuts. He's expected to stick around with the organization and re-sign with the Chargers as a member of the practice squad.

Returning to NFL with Chargers
The Chargers signed Jefferson to a contract Friday.
Analysis: Jefferson spent last season working as a scouting intern with the Ravens, but he is coming out of retirement to get back on the field. The defensive back last played for the Giants in 2022, when he recorded 23 tackles (16 solo) and one defensed pass over nine contests. Jefferson isn't guaranteed to make Los Angeles' roster, but he'll have a chance to compete during training camp for what would likely be a depth role in the team's secondary.

Plans to convert to linebacker
Jefferson intends to put on 10-15 pounds over the offseason and convert to a full-time linebacker, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Jefferson has spent his NFL career as a safety, though he got some looks as a hybrid linebacker with the Giants last season. Per Raanan, Jefferson logged 41 snaps at the position and made nine tackles, so he's not entirely unfamiliar with the role. It's unclear if the veteran will return to New York next season, as he's slated to become a free agent March 15.

Ready to play vs. Washington
The Giants activated Jefferson (foot) from their injured reserve list Saturday ahead of Sunday's game versus the Commanders, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: After sitting out the Giants' last six games, it looks like Jefferson is going to suit up in Week 13. With Xavier McKinney (hand) still on the non-football injury list and Dane Belton (shoulder) listed as questionable for Sunday, Jefferson could be thrown back into the defensive mix right away.

Nearing return
Jefferson (foot) was designated to return from IR on Monday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Analysis: Jefferson was signed off the team's practice squad Oct. 8, but suffered the injury soon after and hasn't played since Week 5 against the Packers. The veteran safety now has a 21-day window to practice with the team before he needs to be placed on the 53-man roster.

Heads to IR
The Giants placed Jefferson (foot) on injured reserve Saturday, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Jefferson will be forced to miss at least the Giants' next four games with a foot injury, making him ineligible to rejoin the lineup until at least Week 11. The veteran safety has appeared in three contests for New York this season, logging five tackles.

Won't play Sunday
Jefferson (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's contest against the Ravens, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jefferson was called up from the practice squad and played 21 percent of the team's defensive snaps during the Giants' Week 5 win over the Packers. However, he presumably picked up a foot injury as well and will be sidelined for at least one contest after failing to practice during Week 6 prep.

Dealing with foot issue
Jefferson (foot) did not practice Wednesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jefferson played 21 percent of defensive snaps Week 5 after being called up from the practice squad, but it appears he picked up a foot issue in the process. The depth safety will have two more chances to up his activity ahead of Sunday's contest against Baltimore.

No practice Wednesday
Jefferson will not practice Wednesday due to an undisclosed injury, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: Jefferson was signed from the Giants' practice squad to the active roster ahead of the team's Week 5 win over the Packers, and he recorded four tackles across 13 defensive snaps -- both season highs. However, he presumably picked up an injury during the contest as well and will be in danger of missing Week 6 if he doesn't return to practice Thursday or Friday.

Signed off practice squad
The Giants signed Jefferson from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Jefferson was elevated to the active roster in Week 1 and Week 2 and logged a total of 19 snaps between the two games. He may be in for a larger role now that he's been signed to the active roster, as he's been working with the first-team defense during practice, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. Jefferson has ample NFL experience with 101 career games under his belt, but he hasn't been a major contributor since 2018 with Baltimore.

Elevated to active roster
Jefferson has been promoted to the Giants' active roster for Sunday's Week 1 tilt against the Titans, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Jefferson joined the G-Men's practice squad last week after getting released by Baltimore. He has seemingly made a quick impression, as he will now suit up and provide depth at safety to go along with presumably helping out on special teams.

Heads to G-Men
The Giants signed Jefferson to their practice squad Thursday, Darryl Slater of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Baltimore released Jefferson on Tuesday, and the Giants subsequently swooped in and signed him to their practice squad. The defensive back played in six games between the 49ers and Ravens last season, with most of his action coming at the end of the campaign. The veteran has ample NFL experience and is a strong candidate to be added to the active roster at some point this season.

Set to be released
The Ravens are in line to release Jefferson, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Jefferson joined Baltimore's practice squad late in 2021 and logged double-digit snaps in each of the final four games of the season. He parlayed his strong play into a one-year deal with the Ravens, but he finds himself among the first wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline.

Over knee injury
Jefferson (knee) is visiting the Colts for a potential workout, suggesting that he's over the knee injury he was dealing with at the end of his Ravens tenure, NFL reporter Josina Anderson reports.
Analysis: Jefferson tore his ACL in October of 2019, but he has recovered and is ready to resume his NFL career. The 28-year-old safety has 98 career games of NFL experience under his belt.

Cut by Ravens
The Ravens are releasing Jefferson, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Analysis: The writing was on the wall Monday when fellow Ravens safety Chuck Clark signed a three-year extension. It was Clark who joined the starting lineup after Jefferson suffered a torn ACL in October, stepping in alongside Earl Thomas at safety. The 28-year-old Jefferson is free to sign with a new team immediately, but he may have trouble generating interest this early in the ACL rehab process. He had five consecutive seasons with 74 or more tackles prior to 2019, earning a reputation as one of the…read more

Unlikely to stay in Baltimore
Jefferson (knee) is expected to be a cap casualty for the Ravens this offseason, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Jefferson is entering the fourth and final season of a four-year, $34 million contract, with a non-guaranteed $7 million base salary. He was one of the leaders of the Baltimore defense in 2017 and 2018, but he struggled in 2019 even before he suffered a torn ACL in Week 5. Jefferson's injury turned the starting job over to Chuck Clark, who took full advantage of the opportunity and then signed a three-year contract extension Monday. The only realistic way for Jefferson to stay in Baltimore…read more
