Heads to Steelers on two-year pact
The Steelers and Peterson agreed to terms on a two-year, $14 million contract contract Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: Peterson turns 33 this summer and reportedly wants to play at least two more seasons. After spending 10 seasons with the Cardinals, Peterson started 30 games for the Vikings over the last two years. He's no longer an elite shutdown corner, but Peterson provides solid coverage on the outside.

Delivers bounce-back 2022 season
Peterson compiled a career-high 66 tackles (56 solo) and 15 pass breakups -- including five interceptions -- while playing all 17 regular-season games for the Vikings in 2022.
Analysis: Thanks to not missing any game action while playing nearly every snap on defense, Peterson surpassed his previous career high for tackles, which he set during his rookie campaign in 2011. The 32-year-old cornerback also logged double-digit pass breakups for the first time since 2013, and he actually accumulated his second-most passes defended plus interceptions of any season in his career. Peterson re-signed with Minnesota on a one-year, $4 million contract last season, and with the team…read more

Six tackles in season opener
Peterson had six total tackles in Sunday's win over Green Bay.
Analysis: Peterson nearly got burned on the team's first defensive play, as Christian Watson got by him deep but dropped an easy 75-yard touchdown reception. Peterson settled down thereafter but gave up four receptions on six targets for 51 yards, according to Pro Football Focus.

Staying in Minnesota
The Vikings and Peterson agreed to a one-year contract Wednesday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Peterson announced the news on his "All Things Covered" podcast, confirming that he'll return to Minnesota for a second consecutive year. In his first season with the Vikings, he missed four games due to a hamstring injury and a stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but he still produced when on the field, recording 45 tackles, five pass breakups and a pick-six in 13 contests. Peterson will slot in as a starting cornerback opposite Cameron Dantzler in 2022.

Comes off COVID list
The Vikings activated Peterson (undisclosed) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
Analysis: Peterson missed Week 13's divisional loss to the Lions as a result of his placement on the COVID list. However, the veteran should be available to handle his usual every-down role during Thursday's matchup against the Steelers.

Lands on COVID-19 list
Peterson (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Peterson is vaccinated, which indicates the cornerback tested positive for the virus. The veteran cornerback will need to produce two negative COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart and remain asymptomatic for 48 hours before being reinstated to the active roster.

Activated by Vikings
Peterson (hamstring) was activated from injured reserve by the Vikings on Saturday.
Analysis: Peterson returned to the practice field Wednesday, and he'll be back in game action Sunday against the Packers following a three-game absence. Across his first six appearances of the season, the 31-year-old logged 13 tackles (eight solo) and two pass defenses.

Designated to return from IR
Peterson (hamstring) has been designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
Analysis: With the move, Peterson will have 21 days to be added to the active roster. The veteran cornerback has been on injured reserve since mid-October, but he has been designated to return at the earliest possible time, which is a good sign for Minnesota's secondary, who has a date with Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams on Sunday. It's unclear if he will be available for Week 11, but he appears to be trending in the right direction.

Progressing in recovery
Peterson (hamstring) ran off to the side during Thursday's practice session, Eric Smith of the Vikings' official site reports.
Analysis: Peterson has been on injured reserve since mid-October and isn't eligible to return until Week 11 against the Packers. However, his participation in running drills suggests that he's trending toward a relatively brief stay on IR. The 31-year-old can return to practice as early as next week, and a better idea of his status will likely come into focus based on his participation.

Sent to IR
The Vikings placed Peterson (hamstring) on injured reserve Monday.
Analysis: Peterson was initially diagnosed with cramps after being forced out of Sunday's overtime win over the Panthers, but it appears that he's dealing with a more serious issue. The veteran cornerback will be forced to miss at least three games while on IR, but coach Mike Zimmer hinted that he could end up missing more time by saying "we don't believe" Peterson's injury is season-ending, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com.

Diagnosed with cramps
Peterson has been diagnosed with cramps and is questionable to return Sunday against the Panthers.
Analysis: Peterson was believed to have suffered a serious injury, but in the end, he was diagnosed with cramps. It remains to be seen if he'll be able to return to action, but he certainly avoided a serious health concern.

Carted off field Sunday
Peterson (foot) was carted off the field Sunday against the Panthers, according to Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Analysis: Peterson had to be helped off the field, and while he wasn't putting any weight on his right foot initially, the situation improved as he got closer to the sideline. Ultimately, he had to be carted off to the locker room, and while no official designation has been given, he isn't likely to return before the end of the contest.

One tackle in Vikings debut
Peterson had one tackle and allowed three receptions on four targets for 75 yards in Sunday's overtime loss to the Bengals according to Pro Football Focus.
Analysis: Peterson wasn't too busy in his Minnesota debut, as the Bengals targeted a struggling Bashaud Breeland eight times. Peterson doesn't have the same coverage skills as during his prime in Arizona, but he gives Minnesota an upgrade over last year's shaky secondary.

Pens contract with Vikings
Peterson agreed Wednesday with the Vikings on a one-year, $10 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The Minnesota defense needed reinforcements at the back end after giving up 258.8 passing yards per game in 2020, the eighth-most in the league. Peterson's best years are probably behind him, but he should bring some stability to the young secondary. The 2011 first-round pick allowed a 98.2 passer rating in coverage last year, and he added 61 tackles, eight pass breakups and three interceptions to his ledger as well.

Nabs three more interceptions
Peterson had 61 tackles (52 solo), eight pass defenses and three interceptions in 16 games during the 2020 campaign.
Analysis: In his age-30 season, Peterson notched his most tackles since he was a rookie back in 2011 and also recorded at least three picks for the fifth time in his noted 10-year career. He isn't nearly the player he was during his prime, when he earned three first-team All-Pro bids (2011, 2013 and 2015). Still, the upcoming unrestricted free agent could get one more lucrative deal based on name recognition alone.

Wants to stay in Arizona
Peterson said he hasn't discussed an extension with the Cardinals, though he'd love to stay with one team for his entire career, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Peterson will turn 30 in July, entering the final season of a five-year, $70 million extension. He opened 2019 with a six-game suspension and didn't play up to his usual standard upon first rejoining the lineup, but he then closed out the year with five pass defenses and an interception over the final three weeks. Cardinals GM Steve Keim suggested in February that the team prefers to keep Peterson around beyond 2020.

Extension in the future?
General manager Steve Keim confirmed Friday the team had discussed Peterson's contract with his representation, noting nothing has transpired yet, but that "we'd love to see him retire as a Cardinal," Grant Gordon of NFL.com reports.
Analysis: Entering the final year of his five-year, $70.5 million extension, there was some chatter Peterson could ultimately be moved after an uneven campaign which saw the star cornerback suspended six games and also limited by a calf injury. There's reason to believe Peterson's less-than-stellar performance could simply be due to rust and poor circumstance, but the Cardinals aren't exactly in a position to move on either way considering their lack of true secondary depth. It's possible the team could…read more

Gets another two picks this season
Peterson notched 53 tackles (46 solo), seven pass breakups, two interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble in 10 contests during the 2019 season.
Analysis: Peterson missed the first outings of his nine-year career, the result of a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Still, he posted his fourth-most tackles of any season, which would have equated to a whopping 84.8 stops over a 16-game slate. Opposing offenses seemed to fear Peterson less than normal in the past campaign, but the potential is there for the 29-year-old to be a lock-down corner again, assuming his 2019 showing merely was a blip on…read more

Picks off second pass of season
Peterson totaled seven solo tackles, three pass defenses and one interception during Sunday's 38-24 win against the Browns.
Analysis: Peterson hasn't been his Pro-Bowl self since returning from a six-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. On a per-game basis, though, he's on pace for the highest tackle total for a complete campaign (43 in eight games) of his notable career. Plus, Peterson has managed two interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble, putting himself into roster consideration in some IDP formats.

Will suit up Sunday
Peterson (calf) does not carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against San Francisco, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports..
Analysis: Peterson put in two limited practices during the week before logging a full one Friday. He should see a full slate of snaps against the 49ers.

Still limited Wednesday
Peterson (calf) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday that Peterson was considered day-to-day, so it's no real surprise to see him putting in a limited practice. The 29-year-old seems on track to play Week 11 if he can avoid a setback.

Considered day-to-day
Coach Kliff Kingsbury called Peterson (calf) day-to-day on Monday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Peterson was forced out of Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers in the fourth quarter due to a calf issue, but he appears to have a shot at suiting up Week 11 versus the 49ers. A decision on the veteran cornerback's availability will likely come down to how well he reacts after a full week of practice. The Cardinals have a bye around the corner Week 12, so the team could also opt to rest Peterson and allow him two weeks of recovery.

Suffers calf injury
Peterson exited Sunday's game against the Cardinals with a calf injury, Kyle Odegard of the Cardinals' official site reports.
Analysis: Peterson had three solo tackles before leaving the game during the fourth quarter. The veteran cornerback's status will be updated by Wednesday at the latest when Arizona returns to practice.
